Specialist in early modern Spain, having published "Violence and Honor in Golden Age Spain" (Yale, 2008), and now working on a study of addiction in early modern Europe. PhD from the University of Virginia in 2001. AB University of Chicago, 1992.
I also keep a blog on current scholarship, entitled "Early Modern Spanish History Notes."
I live in Albany, NY, with my wife Amy and our two daughters, Katie and Alexandra.
